Earlier this month, Adobe released the preview of their new AR (augmented reality) authoring tool and multi-platform system called Project Aero. Using immersive technology, this interface blurs the line between the digital/simulated world and the physical world, creating the sense of immersion.
Adobe has been transforming the ways in which people have been creating for print, web and mobile devices for more than 35 years, and the ability to design using immersive technology will unleash forms of creative expression, business models and overall customer experiences beyond our imagination.
Apple is in the process of developing a leading augmented reality platform, so it should come as no surprise that Adobe, known for continuously pushing creative limits and constantly innovating to be able to support exciting new mediums, announced that they will be working with the developers and designers of Apple to create these phenomenal augmented reality experiences.
Adobe are also collaborating with Pixar and Apple by adding support for USDZ to Adobe Creative Cloud apps and services. Creatives will be able to create and design AR (augmented reality) content from creative tools like Creative Cloud’s Dimension CC and Photoshop CC and convert their assets to USDZ that can be incorporated into the Apple ecosystem. Here’s a peek as to what we expect from Project Aero:
Augmented Reality requires pivotal re-thinking of what it actually means to be able to create with new technologies, tools and interactive models, so every Adobe business group is thinking about, planning, conceptualizing and working towards this awesome new medium of design.
Since the development of AR content requires a combination of both creative and technological proficiency, Project Aero will be delivering a platform for both creatives and developers to build simple augmented reality experiences and scenes using Apple’s ARKit. Immersive content created by designers can be brought into Xcode for any further development and refinement.
Adobe teamed up with fifteen artists for The Festival of the Impossible, a 3-day festival held in San Francisco from 8 – 10 June 2018, showcasing artwork that explores the impossible at the first-ever largescale immersive art exhibition, as a prelude of what we can look forward to.
This is the start of Adobe’s journey towards extending the digital experiences of users beyond the screen, and we can’t wait for the next Adobe Max conference later this year to see more of what this remarkable company has in store for us.
